The entire episode was caught on camera on September 26, the day of BJP's 12-hour Bengal bandh, when the victim had put up a rail block in Barasat near Kolkata.
The incident occurred when around 25 people were crossing the old bridge over a stream in the village, over 100 kms from Pune. The iron bridge is 25 years old and was rusting at the foundation due to stream water.
Ophthalmologist Dr Govinda Venkataswamy, the founder of Aravind Eye Hospital, was conferred the Padmashree award in 1973 for his service to the nation.
