The union health ministry has set up a three-member committee to probe if the virus, which was officially eradicated in India in March 2014, has resurrected with the three batches of polio vaccines containing 1.5 lakh vials.
The incident occurred when around 25 people were crossing the old bridge over a stream in the village, over 100 kms from Pune. The iron bridge is 25 years old and was rusting at the foundation due to stream water.
Ophthalmologist Dr Govinda Venkataswamy, the founder of Aravind Eye Hospital, was conferred the Padmashree award in 1973 for his service to the nation.
