In a note verbale, the Indian mission conveyed to the Pakistani foreign ministry that there was no electrical fault at the residence of the second secretary, suggesting that power was cut deliberately.
The incident occurred when around 25 people were crossing the old bridge over a stream in the village, over 100 kms from Pune. The iron bridge is 25 years old and was rusting at the foundation due to stream water.
Ophthalmologist Dr Govinda Venkataswamy, the founder of Aravind Eye Hospital, was conferred the Padmashree award in 1973 for his service to the nation.
